TR Weekend is Newcomb’s premier event, celebrating Theodore Roosevelt’s journey out of the High Peaks wilderness from Newcomb to the White House following President McKinley’s assassination in Buffalo NY. Events are planned over the entire weekend throughout Newcomb and designed for families, cultural and informative entertainment. This year’s venue highlights the “Centennial Celebration of National Park Service”. Some events are still being worked, however the committee has offered some teasers to get everyone primed for the activities developing. In addition to our always welcomed guest: Joe Wiegand posing as “TR”, we will also feature Dr. Richard Shore interpreting “John Muir”. They will interact and give us insight as to how our National Parks were established and have become National Treasures providing us with special places to appreciate and protect for future generations. Students will pose as “junior park rangers” and share insight on many of our National Parks. Outdoor and indoor activities will take place all weekend, so come on up 28N, the historic “Roosevelt Marcy Trail” into Newcomb, NY, the Heart of NY State’s Adirondack Park to enjoy it’s history, culture, wilderness and celebrate our National Parks Centennial.
